About Burgundy Soap Co.
Burgundy Soap Co. actually started as a hobby for me back in the summer of 2002. I had an extra room in our new place, and I was up for a new challenge. After making a couple of soaps and taking them into work to share with my coworkers, I started getting requests for products in addition to soap that people could give to their families and friends. Just two months after I got started, I had an assortment of soaps, lotions, oils, salts and creams and had my first demonstration in my hometown of Morton, PA. On that day, October 19th, 2002, is when Burgundy Soap Co. was officially born.Even with all of the products I offered I still had many requests for new items, and I tried to meet each of them head on. The problem was, it was really more than I could handle as a one-woman show. With a full-time job and a toddler, I decided that it would be best to concentrate on one area, which led me back to my original hobby of soapmaking. I began to create custom bar soaps for small businesses, and things were going really well. At the same time I felt like something was missing; there was an element to my business that wasn’t there anymore. I recently went to a Fashion Show back at home where I met up with quite a few of my first customers. They were asking how the business was going, and why I decided to switch to only soap. Each one of them had a story about how much they enjoyed the products, and how they only bought other products because I was no longer making mine. I had no idea how strongly I had impacted others, and after speaking to a few more of my customers I heard the same responses over and over again. I spoke to a woman who had found relief for her grandchild’s eczema with my all-natural soap, a lady who enhanced her love life with the help of my massage oil, and several husbands who took a newfound joy in bathing, much to the relief of their wives. Afterwards I took some time off from work and really thought about everything that was said. As Oprah would say, I wouldn’t be “living my best life” if I didn’t continue to help people through the products that God has given me the gift to make. I’ve developed some new ways to streamline things, gotten a bit of help, and I’m taking things to a whole new level, making many of those products that so many of you wrote, called and emailed me about. Thank you to everyone who helped me really see the light, and made me realize how important this was to do. A special thanks to the following divas for sharing their thoughts and giving me a good swift kick in the pants: Valerie Smith, Teddi Taylor, Racheal Holliday, Judith Harris; special thanks to my mommy, who kept insisting that I make her favorite Fantastic Foot Whip, Mia Shank, and to my future husband, Charltez James, for all of his love and support.
